QuickBooks (Private App)

QuickBooks Online is cloud accounting software for small businesses: income and expenses, invoices, bills and payments, and financial reports.
This connector authenticates with your own Intuit OAuth app (client ID and client secret) instead of the managed Connect to QuickBooks flow. Use it when your organisation already has an Intuit app, or needs data access to go through an app it controls.
Prerequisites
- Sign in at developer.intuit.com and open (or
create) your app. It needs the QuickBooks Online Accounting
(
com.intuit.quickbooks.accounting) scope. - Under Keys and credentials → Production, copy the Client ID and Client Secret. Development keys only work with sandbox companies.
- Open the OAuth 2.0 Playground,
select your app and the
com.intuit.quickbooks.accountingscope, then authorise. Add the redirect URI the Playground shows to your app's Production redirect URIs if Intuit asks for it. - Sign in as a Primary admin or Company admin of the QuickBooks Online company you want to extract, and select that company. If Intuit offers a free trial instead of listing your company, that login has no access to the company - use a different login rather than starting the trial.
- Exchange the authorisation code for tokens, then copy the Refresh Token and the Realm ID (Company ID) into the settings here.
Notes:
- Refresh tokens rotate. Intuit issues a new refresh token roughly every 24 hours and the previous one then stops working. The connector saves the latest refresh token automatically after each refresh, so you only enter it once.
- Generate a refresh token just for this connector. Do not reuse a refresh token that another tool (for example an Airbyte connection) is also using - whichever tool refreshes first invalidates the other's copy.
- If a sync fails with
invalid_grant, the refresh token has expired or been revoked. Generate a new one in the Playground and update Refresh Token.
Data recovery / backfill
Incremental streams replicate on MetaData.LastUpdatedTime, bookmarked against
start_date. To backfill or re-sync historical data, lower Start Date, or reset
the pipeline state so the next sync restarts from Start Date. Full-table streams
(company_info, preferences, tax_code, tax_rate) always re-sync completely.
These streams emit the current state of each record, not a change history. If you need history, snapshot the tables in the warehouse (for example with dbt snapshots).

Settings
Client ID
The Production Client ID of your Intuit OAuth app.
Client Secret
The Production Client Secret of your Intuit OAuth app.
Refresh Token
A refresh token issued to your Intuit OAuth app, for example from the Intuit OAuth 2.0 Playground. Intuit rotates it roughly every 24 hours; the connector saves the latest value automatically.
Realm ID
The Company ID of the QuickBooks Online company to extract.
Start Date
The earliest record date to sync, in ISO-8601 format (e.g. 2024-01-01T00:00:00Z).
Sandbox
Enable to extract from a QuickBooks sandbox company (requires your app's Development keys).
